Atwater Park - Lake Orion
Atwater Park is a 3.14 acre neighborhood park located in the eastern portion of the Village at the corner of Perry Street and Atwater Street.
History
This Park is comprised of a total of 13 lots in Perry’s Addition to the Village of Orion subdivision. These lots were purchased by the Village in 1915 for less than $55 dollars each. This area is primarily a single family residential neighborhood southeast of the downtown. The park is named after the street that runs along the south side of it.
Facilities
This park generally is comprised of two distinct areas. The larger portion of the park is devoted to two ball fields. The two fields are situated in a square setting with the two infields opposite each other. Several bleachers and player benches are also found in this area. The baseball fields are maintained in part by the ball leagues that schedule games and practices here.
The smaller section of the park, closest to Atwater Street, contains a mix of playgrounds and other recreation facilities. Specifically, two children’s playgrounds are found here, in addition to benches, picnic tables, bike racks, swings, one basketball hoop, and one checkerboard table. An open space area is found along Atwater Street. Often, moms or dads sit and watch a child in the playground area while an older sibling is playing in a ball game.
Parking space at Atwater Park is mostly along Perry Street.
